Royal Copenhagen's Blue Line service is a modern classic. Blue Line was created in 1962 by architect Grethe Meyer, one of the principal exponents of well-styled and functional Scandinavian design. A fine blue line on the edge of the light gray faience gave the service its name. Dining habits, lifestyle and interior design all influenced the end result. All the pieces are stackable, nad many have a variety of functions. Its simplicity seems free and easy, but was derived at only after thorough thought, knowledge and experiment. Perfection through percision. In 1965 the service was awarded the Danish Honor Prize for industrial design, the ID prize. Since then Grethe Meyer has received many other awards for her functional design, which allows for the poetic in the midst of the very practical.
